ABOUT
Aaron Mirtes is a Nashville-based genre filmmaker focused on fast, twisty horror, thrillers, science fiction, and strange American stories. Self-taught from a young age, he began making movies as a child, earned four Student Emmy Awards for early work in broadcast and live television, and directed his first feature at nineteen.
Since 2014, Mirtes has directed fifteen feature films, building a body of work across horror, crime thrillers, dark comedy, science fiction, and pulpy American genre stories.
His films have been distributed in more than fifty countries, with releases across theatrical, television, home video, and streaming platforms including Paramount+, Showtime, Screambox, and Amazon Prime. His work has been covered by The Hollywood Reporter, Deadline, /Film, Entertainment Weekly, Dread Central, and Bloody Disgusting.
Mirtes is drawn to stories that spiral: grounded premises that grow stranger, ordinary spaces made threatening, and characters pushed into increasingly dangerous corners.
In addition to directing, Mirtes has worked extensively as a writer, producer, cinematographer, editor, and post-production supervisor across his own films and select collaborations. He has also worked in marketing and distribution, editing more than 150 independent film trailers and designing nearly 50 movie posters.
That experience has given him a practical understanding of the full life cycle of an independent genre film, from script and production through packaging, delivery, and release.
His background gives him the instincts of a genre filmmaker, the stamina of a working independent director, and the practical discipline to lead a production from idea to finished film.
